Aqua Art Miami, 2018

  • Aqua Art Miami Beach 1530 Collins Avenue Miami Beach, FL, 33139 United States (map)

2018 marks our fourth consecutive year exhibiting in Miami Beach and our third year exhibiting with Aqua Art Miami. With a collection of works created in a variety of mediums, from oil on canvas to free-folded gampi, from historical object assemblage to ceramic sculpture, BoxHeart's collection of curated works for Aqua Art Miami showcases the artistic talent we represent and serves as an example of our innovative aesthetic.

We look forward to exhibiting exciting new artwork from last year’s exhibiting artists: Andrew Ooi, Joshua Hogan, and Daria Sandburg. For example, Andrew Ooi returns to Aqua Art Miami with gampi cut into thousands of tiny strips, hand painted, and free-folded together in arrangements of shape and color that allows for new information, innovation, and meditation to transpire. Joshua Hogan returns with new paintings from his series, Wild is the Wind, abstracted interpretations of our natural and spiritual world in a way that emphasizes how what we create is reflected back to us. And, Daria Sandburg returns with her current series The Seekers Book of Knowledge an exploration into the feeling of home through historical found object assemblage, sculpture, and painting.

We are also thrilled to present artwork by Miami Beach first-timers: Sara Catapano, Hannah Pierce, and Nicole Renee Ryan! BoxHeart is honored to debut ceramic sculpture by Sara Catapano and Hannah Pierce and oil paintings of imagined places by Nicole Renee Ryan. Catapano fuses an abstracted reference to plants, bacteria, and geological systems with patterns of growth, decay, degradation, erosion, and gestation in her ceramic sculpture to reference the anatomical and parasitic residents of our natural world as a metaphor for the thoughts and feelings of the human condition. Inspired by pop surrealism, Pierce fabricates poetically expressed depictions of narratives, street scenes, and cityscapes in her ceramic sculpture to represent every individual’s warped perceptions of reality. Ryan’s overly romantic or tragic interpretations of the natural world are defined as much by what is missing as by what is present. She blurs out details in her paintings, preferring her audience fill in their own, imagining themselves in her soft, unfocused painted subjects.

Aqua Art Miami takes place in the heart of South Beach within a few blocks from Art Basel. It’s unique environment – a classic South Beach hotel with spacious exhibition rooms that open onto a breezy, intimate courtyard – has become a favorite gathering spot for collectors, curators, and art lovers to discover fresh talent and acquire new works while exchanging cultural ideas and forming meaningful connections. Please join BoxHeart at Aqua Art Miami, Room 211, from December 5th through December 9th, 2018 for this year’s Art Basel celebration!
