For our first Art Insight, we are pleased to introduce the work of Pittsburgh artist Joshua Hogan.
Hogan paints surreal, beautifully imagined landscapes inspired by his Semester at Sea, an undergraduate study abroad program during which he spent four months visiting fifteen countries throughout Asia, The Middle East and Eastern Europe. Upon returning home, Hogan found himself painting images inspired by the ocean and the sea: expanses of blue and purple populated by orange shapes that grew in complexity and number, taking on a symbolic meaning for the artist as they evolved.
